About Him<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Snipes uses hundreds of different colors in a million different ways to create a piece of art that not only looks beautiful and different but also tells a story. Kevin likes to use his art pieces to explore cultural identity, his memories, and history. His work is meant to tell stories.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

His characters are very pretty with doodle-like styles. He uses a lot of thin lines, and his characters are uncolored. He explains that this is intentional and that he does this so his characters can be any race or ethnicity, which I find very beautiful.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

He likes to add conversations he\u2019s overheard and incorporate them into the pieces he makes, making it seem as if they are happening between the characters he puts into his art.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

He uses his surroundings and the things going on around him to create his pottery. He allows his environment to help develop his art.

Kevin lives in Philadelphia, where he is now an artist-in-residence at The Clay Center. Kevin uses white porcelain clay to create his pieces. He creates and cuts the clay into slabs and assembles them into his creations.

I honestly have no clue what this is used for other than as a sculpture, but I think the art all over it is really beautiful. The colors are bright, and there\u2019s a mix of light and dark. The shape is not symmetrical, but it works in an abstract kind of way. The top of the piece has a group of rounded, hole-filled protrusions that remind me of a bee\u2019s nest. There are two characters on this piece, a man and a woman. The edges are shaped with hexagon-shaped bases working their way up and growing outward.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This vase is really pretty to me as well. The colors are a lot more vibrant and dark. His character in this piece rides a bike while holding a popsicle. This man is made of thin blue lines, as opposed to the other two on the last piece, which were made of black lines. This piece is more symmetrical than the last, but there are still imperfections. The edges are sharp around the base and rounded as you move up toward the neck, where they become sharp again. The piece off to the side, which I think might be some type of handle or just an added detail, isn\u2019t proportional to the vase, but due to his art style, it works very well.
